Have you wondered how to save your Substack stories as beautifully formatted PDFs for offline reading? If so, follow these steps (see screenshots below):
Launch the Chrome browser1.
Navigate to your Substack post.
Click on the File Menu in the Chrome toolbar.
Select Print.
Preview the page. Under Destination, choose 'Save as PDF,' and select your preferred folder.
Voila, you have an instant PDF of your online post including the likes and comment counts and a brief preview of your comments.
Enjoy your posts offline, or create a handbook of your posts to read over coffee!
Use the Substack’s ‘Export’ feature to create an offline archive. Just know that they're saved as simple HTML files without the fancy formatting.
Pro tip: Make it a habit to save your posts on your computer (and a USB drive) to ensure you have offline backups. It is easiest when you save right after you publish a post or if using the Export feature, once a week.
If this is helpful, please like, share, comment! Thank you for reading.
Most browsers have a similar option, so the same tip should work.
OMG! I’ve been wanting to do this and wasn’t sure how to. Guess I need to start using Chrome. Thanks so much!
A simple solution we almost forget about. I concur completely on Jayshree’s point that the key to backups is to make them part of your workflow. Just make it a step after Publish. It has to be routine to work.
