Substack: Beefing up the Home Page.
On Links and Home Pages.
In the above story, I alluded to the customizations possible on the home page, below-the-fold. You can add more to the home page now.
Dashboard→Settings→Website gets you to the Homepage links field below. Select Edit.
Decide which links you want to add. They can be alternate sites you run, books you wrote, with a link to their review or purchase site, reviews of your work - you get the idea. The Edit yields a blank link page at first.
Select ‘Add Link’ for the form and enter the details. For the Group field, enter the category you wish to list the links under - for example, ‘My Books,’ and enter the website link as shown below. The site, avantgardepro.io is my biztech consulting site. I added two sites to the same group.
You can list multiple links under the same ‘Group,’ choosing from the drop down menu as I share below.
I added a third link which is to my second publication.
Voila, now the home page links are set up below, showing under the Recommendations list. If you don’t have any recommendations (you should!) then these links will show second in order. You can check the listing by viewing the home page.
Adding similar grouped new links? Choose the same groups you created.
You can reorder the links by selecting the first reorder button and changing the order.
What you cannot do, is ‘Edit’ as for some reason, the Substack tech team really dislikes giving users as much power as inherent in an ‘Edit. You have to delete with the ‘x’ and re-add the link if you make *any* mistake in grouping, title, subtitle or link name.

Bonus
Some of you have wanted greater control on how the recommendations showed on your page. Well, you can add specific ones you prioritize under its own group so it stands out, and is sticky (doesn’t change). Leave it under the ‘Recommendations’ as is (so the Substack engine continues to promote it!), but highlight it as well separately.
