These were are our staples for a long time with variations for the business world.
Add to it, Flickr, Unsplash, Pixabay, and now, Dall-E and Midjourney, for images.
As cloud and SaaS became common, and content creation grew, we saw the explosion of new ideas - consumer savviness and easy user interfaces.
So some startups brought consumer user interface innovations to business.
Now professional users could also access fun and intuitive software like Slack (instead of Windows messenger, Jabber, Chime), Zoom, Google Meet (instead of Webex), Trello (instead of the cumbersome Jira which then bought Trello) etc.
Then we got Medium and Substack to make writing easier than Wordpress, Blogger, and tumblr made it.
Remember Microsoft Sharepoint, the retro software web interface used to exchange files at work? Or the high-maintenance Wikis?
The professional world stayed with the idea of owning or having its content hosted on third-party platforms, hiring designers, content writers, and UI programmers to develop beautifully designed platforms.
But design standards changed rapidly, and automated DIY solutions emerged that would dynamically allow you to create your personal site in minutes.
Canva and Figma also changed how design was developed.
But Wiki for work still stayed as a place online where projects maintained their information for easy communication between members and used emails to share links.
So, someone had the Notion - why do we need so many tools for everyday activities at work and home?
Thus was born an all-in-software product that many fell in love with that enables:
Writing.
Formatting.
Adding Visuals.
Creating a Database.
Crunching Numbers.
Presenting Information.
Websites.
Blogs
Project Management
Wiki Sites.
Inline Links.
Notifications.
Project Planning.
Task Management.
Knowledge Management.
Action Tracking.
Smart Link Management.
Inline commands.
Shared Workspaces for anytime anywhere Collaboration
Mobile friendly interface.
Throw in some generative AI into the mix, and you have ‘Notion,’ the multipurpose software product that has become the rage.
How well does it work? Is it truly a wonder kid?
Over the next few posts, I shall walk you through the power of Notion and its shortcomings.
Stay tuned!
I’ve never heard of Notion. My workday life is all about PDFs and excel and that won’t change until the sun hours out lol.
